##### Maximum no. of records for a ternary relationship?

**Question:**

Consider the following ER diagram:

If A has 100 entities, B has 1000 entities, and C has 10 entities, what is the maximum number of triples of entities that could be in the relationship set for R?

**Plz explain how it is 1000??**

A to B and A to C is many to one relationship that means

Every B and every C is participate in a relationship therefore 1000 triples or 10 triples.

Maximum no. Of triples of entities are 1000

what i did was-

since, a relationship is nothing but a mapping.... Also, the relationship is N:1 between A and B for each C, N:1 betwn A and C for each B , and 1:1 between B and C for each A..

Therefore, maximum triples = 100*1000 = 100000...

A to B is many to one that means in every relationship only one entity of B can participate and many entity of A is participate in one relationship. So, 1000 triples

Same for A to C. So, 10 triples

B and C is one to one. So, only 10 triples are possible.

Maximum no of triples is 1000

But i feel that u have little misconception in cardinality ratio.. U have shown 1:N instead of N:1 in fig... I suggest u to watch this..
